Every year since 1983, Coney Island has celebrated the start of summer and official opening of the Atlantic Ocean with an annual Mermaid Parade the third Saturday of June. The parade, which pays homage to the hugely popular Coney Island Mardi Gras parades of the early 1900s, is the largest procession of its kind in the U.S., attracting hundreds of professional and amateur entertainers and thousands of spectators from all over. The imaginative costumes, floats and performances are a must-see!
Queen Mermaid and King Neptune for Mermaid Parade 2016 were American supermodel Hailey Clauson and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Carlo A. Scissura. They couldn’t have picked a nicer day to reign; the temperatures were in the high 70s and the sun was out in full force!
Since Ruby’s Bar & Grill’s ocean-facing boardwalk location is perfect for viewing MERpeeps in their natural element, we’re THE place to party all day long!
