Even the cold of winter can’t dampen Coney Island’s energetic atmosphere!
Every year, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club hosts its popular New Year’s Day Swim — when daring souls don bathing suits and costumes to take a quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean for fun and charity.
Proceeds benefit the club’s partner, Camp Sunshine, a retreat in Maine for chronically ill children and their families. With beach temps in the mid- to upper-40s, more than 2,000 swimmers took the Polar Bear Club’s annual New Year’s Day plunge at Coney Island Jan. 1, 2017, raising approximately $80,000 for Camp Sunshine.
Although Ruby’s is normally closed for the winter season, we DO open every New Year’s Day for the plunge. Whether you plan to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge or just miss the boardwalk, visit Coney Island on Jan. 1 and swing by Ruby’s. We’ll warm you up!
Here’s a great video of the first plunge of 2016:
We at Ruby’s Bar & Grill wish you a very #HappyNewYear! We’re open today until 5 p.m. in honor of #ConeyIsland’s #PolarBearSwim; see you on the boardwalk! #Brooklyn #FreezeYourBunsOff
