Every year, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club hosts its popular New Year’s Day Plunge — when daring souls don bathing suits and costumes to take a quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean for fun and charity.   • Coney Breast Cancer Walk raised over $450,000!

    Breast cancer survivors and lost loved ones were celebrated and honored Sunday, Oct. 20, during the American Cancer Society's 2019 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Coney Island. More than 30,000 people participated in the 4-mile walk, which helped raise awareness and more than $450,000 for breast cancer support and research.   • Coney Alzheimer’s Walk raised over $60,000!

    Hundreds of participants headed to West 15th Street and the Coney Island boardwalk (not far from Ruby’s) Sunday, Sept. 22, for CaringKind’s 2019 Brooklyn Alzheimer’s Walk. The 2-mile event, which brought in over $60,000, helped raise awareness and funding for Alzheimer’s care and research.     Last summer, on select Monday nights in July and August, the beach near Ruby's Bar & Grill was transformed into a makeshift movie theater at dusk — complete with a 40-foot inflatable screen! The FREE flicks for the 2019 summer season included family favorite "The Incredibles 2," award-winning box office hit "A Star Is Born" and sci-fi blockbuster "Avengers: End Game."     Nearly 27,000 runners enjoyed wonderfully warm and sunny weather Saturday, May 18, 2019, for the 39th annual Popular Brooklyn Half Marathon — which maintained its status as the largest race of its kind in U.S. history.
